Our philosophy
of the house
Satisfied guests through satisfied employees
The traditional Schlosshotel Steinburg, built in 1897 on the foundations of a medieval castle, is now in its third generation of ownership by the Bezold family. The hotel consists of the Steinburg worlds ‘Dream Castle’, ‘Country Castle’ and ‘Refugium’ and skilfully combines historically elegant style elements with contemporary purist design. It therefore offers the right ambience for a stay in Würzburg to suit every taste.
The award-winning restaurant spoils guests with refined culinary delights, sophisticated cuisine and warm and attentive service. It is also an insider tip for locals who are dining out in Würzburg. In the atmospheric ‘SteinReich’ wine cellar, you will find fine wines from the famous Würzburg Stein. And if you would like to hold a conference or celebration here, you are also in good hands. Our modern and versatile conference technology and lovingly laid tables offer the best conditions for a successful event. The Steinburg has always stood for the highest quality!
In order to guarantee this standard on a daily basis, we need outstanding employees who are passionate about their job and feel at home in our team, the ‘Steinburg family’.

That is why it is particularly important to us, the Bezold family, to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and appreciation. Guests and employees meet at eye level. This creates the authentic warmth that you will feel as a guest.
Quality must have its price, general conditions must be consistently adhered to and we also take a critical view of price negotiations.
This is the only way we can treat our team fairly and maintain the passion and enthusiasm for the hotel profession. This is how our guests meet cheerful employees who make their stay a special experience and put a smile on their faces.
And when everyone leaves our hotel happy and satisfied and wants to come back as soon as possible, then we know we’ve done everything right! We have done everything right!
Our
corporate values
We attach great importance to ensuring that every guest and every employee feels at home here at the castle. And we want an atmosphere characterised by openness, consideration and understanding. We have therefore defined the following six corporate values as the cornerstones of our day-to-day interactions.
Respect
‘Friendship flows from many sources,
but most purely from respect.’
Daniel Defoe

Responsibility
‘People are nothing in themselves. They are just a limitless opportunity. But he is infinitely
responsible for this opportunity.’
Albert Camus
The path to the goal begins with responsibility for our own actions and for our results. This includes being consistent in our decisions, communicating our wishes openly and living our goals. We make a positive contribution to the community and use our resources responsibly.
Family
‘A family is like a tree. The branches may grow
in different directions,
but the roots hold them all together.’
o. V.
We are human and inspire out of conviction. We are happy to pass on the positive feeling we experience in our team to our guests. We see cordiality and openness as a matter of course.

Honesty
‘Honesty – the test of courage of our time’
Rainer Karius
Honesty is the foundation of satisfied guests and employees for harmonious co-operation. Because every little honesty is better than a big lie. We formulate our expectations clearly, are objective and fair. A sincere and open attitude enriches the community.
Quality
‘Quality comes from passion, not from rules.’
Georg Wilhelm Exler
The willingness to give our best is reflected in the satisfaction of our guests and employees. Mistakes happen, so control is important. We realise our quality standards by working with standards and process descriptions. General terms and conditions must therefore be consistently adhered to and we also take a critical view of price negotiations. This is the only way we can treat our team fairly and maintain our passion and enthusiasm for our profession in the hotel industry.

Passion
„People live through passion,
they merely exist through responsibility.“ Nicolas/Sebastien Chamfort
Community and passion – We are strong when we trust each other, all pull together and have fun working together every day. Our job is to make our guests happy, to inspire them, and we see this task as a privilege, recognise the commitment it requires and are proud of our successes.
The Team
Good spirits through and through
Just between
us …
Dear guests,
One of our company values is “honesty“. It is very important for us that you know some facts before you come to us for the first time. For we also wish from the heart that you spend a wonderful time at our Steinburg.
It is equally important for us that you are honest with us. An open and respectful exchange should be the basis for every solution in case, sometimes, something does not go so smoothly.
The government has decided that as of January 1, 2024 there will be a VAT increase from 7% to 19 % on food in restaurants. This decision together with steeply increased energy and personnel costs, as well as recently made political decisions that will lead to still higher costs, unfortunately pressures us to make corresponding price adjustments.
However, despite the economically tight situation we have decided to make these adjustments only as of April 1, 2024. Therefore, depending on each event, we have varying price adjustments and we kindly ask you to direct any questions to our reception staff at +49 931 97020.
We sincerely thank you for your understanding!
Arriving at the Steinburg via Unterdürrbach is a challenge despite good signs. The narrow Steinburgstraße (coming from Unterdürrbach) is not easy to see along and there are only few possibilities to let another car pass. Our tip: No matter from which direction you come: Take the alternative ”Reußenweg“ via Grombühl. There are very good signs for the Steinburg and you arrive completely at ease. See the exact route here.
In earlier times, one reached the Steinburg on foot or by horse carriage. Unfortunately, there was and is no direct public transportation connection to us. A good alternative is a walk through the vineyards into the city. You will arrive 20-30 minutes later. Depending on whether you are going shopping or having a “bridge wine” on the Alte Mainbrücke bridge, for the way back to the castle right next to the bridge there is a taxi stand.
The Schlosshotel Steinburg parking lot is available to you at no charge. We also provide 4 public charging stations. These can be freely used by our hotel guests.
In the dream castle, the labyrinth of narrow steps leads to the labyrinthine rooms. A challenge for those used to satnavs and castle ghosts. But don’t worry, the staircase is well signposted and we will be happy to help you with your luggage.
We don’t have a lift in our dream and country castle. Because climbing stairs is much healthier! Nevertheless, we will be happy to help you carry your luggage if you have packed too much and cannot manage the stairs with your suitcase on your own. Of course, we will consider your request for a room on the lower floors or in our ‘Refugium’ (with lift, disabled access & air conditioning).
Unfortunately, we do not have air conditioning in either building. This was far from ‘en vogue’ at the time of construction. However, it does save you a stiff neck and the next cold.
However, we are working on finding a retrofittable option that is suitable for the old walls. We will be happy to provide you with fans.
Only works in the Refugium when the windows are closed. As our air conditioning is also responsible for the heating, the room can only be cooled down in the summer months.
To get to the beautiful rooms and function rooms in the Refugium, you leave our main building briefly. During this time, we spoil you with the best, clean fresh air on the way back and forth, instead of stale air in the lift. After about 30 metres you have reached your rewarding destination. If the weather doesn’t play ball, our stylish Steinburg umbrellas are at your disposal.
Our tip when checking in: park your car in peace in the car park opposite and check into the main building first, without your luggage.
Our restaurant is also very popular with the people of Würzburg. Especially our terrace seating in summer. It therefore happens from time to time that we cannot offer you a table as our hotel guest. If possible, please make a reservation directly when booking! Alternatively, we recommend a restaurant in Würzburg city centre.
‘Steinburgs Bistro’ is open daily from 12 noon to 5 pm and Monday and Tuesday from 6 pm. You can expect a varied selection of fresh and seasonal dishes, ranging from savoury classics to sweet delicacies. Wednesday to Sunday we serve our first-class ‘Your Choice’ gourmet menu in the evening. The restaurant doors remain closed from 5 pm to 6 pm so that our castle ghosts can keep to their break times and prepare for the evening service. Our restaurant team will be happy to welcome you again from 6 pm.
During the summer months, our Steinburgs Hüttle is also available at weekends (subject to availability and weather permitting) with a very friendly self-service service.
Health is important to us and exercise in the fresh air is the healthiest of all, with no viral load. You can jog, run, cycle (we have great e-bikes) and hike with us. There are countless possibilities and levels of difficulty. All with a unique view over Würzburg. (Who needs a fitness room?) And if you need to cool off quickly, you can simply use our small swimming pool. For reasons of sustainability and to prevent evaporation and cooling of the pool water, we have a pool cover at the edge of the pool. This is stretched over the pool every evening.
If you need to cool off quickly or prefer to relax, simply use our swimming pool with the adjoining small sauna, which we are happy to switch on for our guests on request. The area is lovingly furnished by us and invites you to relax. Please do not expect an extensive ‘wellness area’ with several saunas, steam bath and massage offers. We are not an advertised ‘wellness hotel’ and therefore deliberately refrain from using the term ‘wellness’ in our small sauna and swimming pool area.
For reasons of sustainability and to prevent evaporation and cooling of the pool water, we have a pool cover at the edge of the pool. This is stretched over the pool every evening.
Mutual appreciation is unfortunately becoming increasingly rare. However, it is very important to us to convey to our entire team that every employee contributes equally to the success of our company. In light of the current situation, we therefore kindly ask you to refrain from leaving copper coins (cent pieces) in the hotel rooms as a sign of your ‘appreciation’ for the housekeeping team. A more generous thank you is of course always welcome 🙂
